One thing to remember is that the advertised bandwidth from the various broadband providers is not always reliably available to the customer. This is because ISPs (Internet Service Providers) often allow a far greater number of subscribers to access their backbone connection or network than it can technically handle. This is based upon the assumption that many individuals will not be using their full connection capacity very often, so the load will balance out. This is known as an aggregation strategy, which works most of the time, which means that most users can access the full capacity of their bandwidth, depending on the package of broadband they purchase. One of the major things that has begun to tax the way various broadband providers offer Internet these days is the fact that an increasing number of companies are offering streaming videos and other services online. This causes more and more customers to max out their connection rates. If the company in question is not prepared, there can be some significant traffic issues with the broadband connection.

If you are looking to compare broadband and broadband providers, it is important to take a look at the various broadband deals offered by companies in the United Kingdom to determine your location and which company offers you the best packages. They range from Sky Broadband, Think Broadband, Be Broadband, Tesco Broadband, and Virgin Media Broadband. Your location determines which company will be your Internet service provider. Be sure to read the fine print regarding data transfer rates to determine which company is right for you.

When making a broadband comparison, price is often the main motivator for individuals, although the amenities offered with various broadband deals can also influence the consumer’s decision. Whether they decide to use Think Broadband, O2 Broadband, Orange Home Broadband, or a service such as Tesco Broadband or Plusnet Broadband, there are a huge number of companies offering UK customers broadband access.

One of the major differences between pricing for broadband Internet in the United Kingdom versus the United States is that in the U.S. internet service providers have flat-rate models, where the pricing is determined by the maximum bit-rate chosen by the consumer when they sign up for package. In the UK we tend to have an hourly charge or a monthly maximum rate. Unfortunately, the increased consumer usage in regards to streaming media has created a situation where certain ISPs have limited bandwidth, and as the demand for bandwidth increases, their networks become unstable. Ultimately this results in customers beginning to pay for something that they cannot actually access.

Broadband UK customers have access to range of options from flat-rate programmes to programmes that have a cap on the maximum download capacity in order to adjust for those customers who expect to use only a small amount of bandwidth, and thus give priority to the users who are paying for more access. This allows for greater control over the speed of each individual customer’s access to the broadband connection. Many companies, such as Virgin Media, actually allow consumers to build their own package before signing up for broadband Internet.

Article Content:
As people outgrow their old mobile plans, there is sometimes the need to make some changes in the current broadband plan. When this is the case, it is important to take the time to find a plan that meets your needs today by performing a mobile broadband comparison task. Here are some tips to help you with the process.

If you are in the middle of a contract period with your current plan, the best place to begin your mobile broadband comparison is with your current provider. Many broadband providers are more than happy to roll existing commitments into more robust plans, as a courtesy to their customers. The upside of this approach is that you will still be dealing with a company you know, and will not have to worry about paying any penalties for ending the previous plan before the end date. As a bonus, the set up of the new plan may require you to do little or nothing on your end, in terms of connecting equipment.

For people who are near the end of their current plans and do not want to renew the contract with the current provider, it just makes sense to begin comparing plans before the current contract ends. As you gather pricing from different vendors, make sure to tell them exactly what you want, so they will direct you to the right broadband packages. Ask pointed questions about any up front costs or any type of recurring costs that are not covered in the basic monthly payment. The idea is to make sure you are getting a better plan, but are still getting the best price possible.

Article Content:
There are many hazardous chemicals used in the manufacture of mobile phones. The majority of the materials in a mobile phone are the plastics and polymers that go into making the casing and circuit boards. These components generally don’t break down over time and will remain in the environment for years after being discarded.

Brominated flame-retardants are used to prevent fire inside mobile phones but are, oddly enough, highly flammable themselves. They are thought to cause cancer and complications in pregnancy leading to developmental problems and learning difficulties. These substances are now banned in some European countries.

The high quality capacitors and other electronic components contain rare metals such as arsenic and beryllium. Both of these are group 1 carcinogens and have other toxic effects in the body, usually resulting in death. Mobile phone batteries contain the highest amounts of some of the more toxic materials in the phone including lithium, cadmium, and other heavy metals such as cobalt, zinc and copper. Of these cadmium is the 7th most toxic substance known to man.

All of these chemicals can escape into the environment if a mobile phone ends up in a landfill site, possibly making their way into ground water that makes up our drinking water supply. For this reason it is best to have your old mobiles recycled free of charge by one of the many phone recycling companies that are available such as Mazuma or Envirofone. These companies also offer cash for mobile phones that are reusable and can be sold on.

Do I need a new computer to connect to broadband?

This depends entirely on how old your computer is. If it’s over ten years old, then it is quite likely that you will need to update your computer, because the version of operating system that is installed may not be adequate enough to handle the advances that the Internet has seen over the past ten years. Broadband speeds are much faster today, but if your computer is no more than five years old there is absolutely no reason why you should not be able to connect without any real issues.

Is there anything else that I might need, before I can connect to broadband?

If you decide that you want to connect wirelessly you may need to purchase additional hardware; wireless internet is incredibly convenient, as it allows any member of the household to use the Internet in whatever room they wish, you may have to purchase a ‘Wireless Router’ that connects via a cable in the wall, to your ‘base’ computer. Unless your house is the size of London, the router’s signal should be able to reach any room in your home.

You should check to see if your computer has built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. All recent laptops come with this as standard, but older models may not. If yours does not have one you will need to purchase an adaptor in order to connect wirelessly to your broadband. These devices can be purchased at any computer shop and are quite inexpensive.

There are a large number of good deals out there when it comes to broadband. To help find the best broadband deal for you, here are a selection of the most competitive we could find:

If you are looking for a package that allows you to use the Internet without any of the usual 15Gb limit nonsense, Virgin Media’s ‘Virgin Broadband Size L plus Phone M’ could be the perfect package for you. With 10Mb connection speed and the size M phone, this package will cost you only a paltry £5 for the initial three months of the contract.

If value for money, is what you are looking for, we strongly recommend looking at BT’s ‘BT Total Broadband Option 1’. For a measly £7.78 per month, BT will give you 10Gb of usage, which is plenty enough for the majority of households, with a connection speed of 20Mb and including free Wireless BT Home Hub 2.0. If you decide that you’d like an extra 1Gb each month, its simple, all you have to do is purchase a ‘Mobile Broadband dongle’ and after making that one-off payment, it is just like Freeview, because you’ll have an extra 1Gb of usage, every single month.

For the majority of us, however, we want something between these two packages, something that balances everything out nicely. If this is for you, you should try O2’s ‘Broadband Standard’. The speed is a little slower than both the Virgin and BT packages, but it is cheaper than BT’s package and includes not only unlimited downloads, but existing O2 customers are instantly entitled to a special discount.

Article Content:
Mobile broadband allows users to surf the net using a high-speed connection through a portable device. This could be a mobile phone, but these days, it is more likely to take the form of a dongle, which is a device that attaches either to the users PC or into a wireless, WiFi, router.

Mobile broadband is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways of getting onto the Internet in the United Kingdom. There are a number of reasons as to why this could be; first of all, because mobile broadband is powered by a portable device, it means that it can be used pretty much anywhere, whether that’s in the users home, at school, at work, in the library or even on holiday. Simply put, it means that no matter where they you are, you will always be able to get online, as long as you have access to a computer.

Another reason why mobile broadband is so popular is because as mobile phones have so many “free texts and calls,” far fewer people are relying on landline phones; in fact many people do not have them at all. However, to purchase a typical broadband connection, usually through wires into your home, most companies require the user to already have a landline. As a result, mobile broadband is potentially the only option available for those who really do not want a landline.

Mobile broadband is also ideal for individuals who live in more remote areas that are not suitably equipped for cable-based broadband.

Article Content:
As some broadband packages offer unlimited access they come with a fair usage policy. This basically means that those who download excessive amounts of content may be capped, so as to not adversely affect other users. The user who downloads what is considered to be an above average amount of data will receive an e-mail suggesting that their usage be curbed. One of the biggest drains on broadband usage is the BBCi player, which is becoming ever more popular.

If you have a broadband package that only offers limited access then you should keep yourself aware of how much is used. There shouldn’t be a problem if you keep track of usage before each payment goes out, details of which can usually be found on the broadband provider’s website.

Connecting to the Internet can also be achieved wirelessly, with the use of a dongle, which is simply a USB device that connects to a computer and provides the user with mobile Internet access. The actual amount of access depends on the size of the dongle. Problems could arise when using a dongle with a wireless router, which is designed to enable more than one computer to connect to the Internet at any one time. This is fine if the dongle has a decent storage capacity, for instance one with a storage space of 15Gb. However, you will still have to make fairly regular checks on usage, for your own peace of mind.
