The multinational Nokia Corporation manufactures Nokia mobile phones in Finland. Developing communication devices for the military led to Nokia becoming a giant in the mobile phone market towards the end of the 20th century. Today Nokia is the largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world, a massive achievement in this competitive market.

Nokia released the now iconic Mobira Cityman model back in 1987, and by 2005 Nokia had sold their billionth phone. Focussing heavily on user-friendly handsets, the company turned to making smartphones in the early 21st century. The first touch screen phone to be released by Nokia was the Nokia 7710, which debuted in 2007, and it was pronounced an instant success. Combining the best in smartphone technology with the usability factor that the company built its name on, recent Nokia mobile phone models, include the Nokia X7 and the Nokia C9, employ AMOLED screen technology for a dazzlingly bright display.

From humble beginnings in a paper mill in rural Finland, Nokia has come to be one of the most successful telecommunications companies in the world. Nokia mobile phones now rate with the best. They range from the simple Nokia 5230 model with its user-friendly touch screen and ease of use to the Nokia N8, one of the most highly rated Nokia mobile phones yet. The N8 combines a fantastic 12-megapixel camera with state of the art pinch and zoom capacity and smartphone technology. Nokia mobile phones remain a firm market leader in the noughties.

When it comes to the latest mobile phones, the Nokia N8 has to be one of the most popular options for smartphone users. It has one of the most solid casings seen on a current mobile phone and has curved edges for ease of grip. The phone is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera and a good quality flash, ensuring that any images you take will be of the highest quality, even in the poorest light. The resolution of the photos can be changed to a smaller megapixel size if you prefer. There is a wide range of settings for the camera that can be used to alter focus, size, and effect of the photo. The camera can also be used to make video calls via 3G and Wi-Fi. Videos and images can be played directly to a television via a HDMI cable.

The touchscreen measures 3.5 inches and is very responsive to the touch. Users can move easily between three home screens. There are apps and widgets that can be easily added to the phone and users can customise the home pages to suit themselves.

The media player on the Nokia N8 has good sound quality and there are headphones supplied which can be remote controlled. There is 16GB of memory on the phone itself, which is impressive, even for the latest mobile phones and with the micro SD slot, you can create a sizeable playlist. With a good battery life, this smartphone could be the one for those who rely a great deal on their mobile phone.

The Nokia E52 is the successor to the much-loved Nokia E51 and it promises so much more. It may not have a posh touchscreen but it feels and looks good, slim and covered by a metallic coloured casing. The 12-key keypad is clear and typing is easy, as is reading messages on the large screen.

The battery life of this phone is exceptional; you can listen to music, download images and browse the net without constantly having to recharge your handset. The talk time is up to eight hours and the standby time is up to 552 hours, more than enough to impress anyone.

The camera has 3.2 megapixels, a video camera and player plus an LED flash. It sounds standard but pictures taken with the camera, both inside and out, were either okay or slightly fuzzy.

The E52 runs with Symbian that makes downloading some applications a little bit fiddly. Applications that run well with the system are Skype, Spotify, Opera Mini and Google.

GPS works great with Google maps and the phone does have HSDPA and Wi-Fi, which means that you can browse the net at home or on the move quickly.

The audio player has good quality and the addition of a 3.5 mm headphone jack is always good, so that you can listen to your tracks on your favourite headphones.

Orange is offering a great deal on the E52: an 18-month contract gives you 600 minutes and unlimited texts for £25.00, and the handset is free.

Article Content:
The Nokia E5 is one of the most recent in the rather extensive selection of Nokia smartphones, and functions as a quietly efficient unit despite its relative lack of bells and whistles.

The handset that comes with the Nokia E5 features its own little traditional QWERTY keyboard which is very easy to use and, together with the ease of email access (offering up to ten accounts), makes clear that this is one of the new mobile phones that is most definitely aimed directly at business oriented users.

Features include Wi-Fi, and the phone supports the HSDPA network. It features a display of about 2.4 inches, but it is strong and clear with a high resolution of 320 x 240 pixels.

The phone comes complete with the usual memory card offering up to 2 GB of space, but also offers increased storage of up to 32 GB via the card slot and the microSDHC option. Internal memory, however, is just 250 MB, which seems a little on the small side for a business phone such as this. The phone also comes complete with its own Real multimedia player, FM radio (including internet radio) and a 5 megapixel camera with its own flash and other features such as autofocus, light sensitivity modes, 3x zoom, colour tones and manual exposure settings.

On the plus side is the fact that this is definitely on the “cheap mobile phones” side of things, and there are sure to be some good mobile phone deals available for this unremarkable yet sturdy piece of equipment.

For individuals looking for utilitarian, basic, mid-range mobile phone deals, the Nokia 3600 Slide is an option worth considering, if you can get your hands on it.

Visually, the 3600 Slide is a pleasant phone to look at, coming in at 97.8 mm tall by 47.2 mm wide by 14.5 mm deep and weighing only 97.3 grams. It feels sturdy and the slide works well. Functionally, the phone is quite easy to use, with a well-laid out keyboard that makes text messaging easy. Basic navigation is also a breeze, featuring the familiar menu system found in most Nokia mobile phones.

For individuals looking for a good camera phone, this isn’t it. The 3.2 megapixel camera comes with autofocus and LED flash, but while okay for the occasional snap, picture quality for this phone isn’t good enough to replace your digital camera.

Other features found with the 3600 Slide include an FM radio, a media player compatible with most popular formats, and Bluetooth. However, there is no Wi-Fi or 3G, so web browsing is slow. Connectivity options for transferring data include USB and Bluetooth, using EDGE technology for up to three times the transfer speed of GPRS.

Battery time for the 3600 is reported to be up to five and a half hours talk time or 280 hours of standby.

The Nokia 3600 Slide comes in black and pink. At the writing of this article, it is available through Orange PAYG and Vodafone pay-as-you-go deals. It is also available SIM free via PrePayMania.

It seems the rumor regarding N8 arrival is delay has proven to be true. Nokia decided to delay the launching of N8 for a few more weeks. They mention that everything is still working according to their plans on launching the device in late Q3 2010. But for sure is not this month but rather next month.

Nokia said that the pre-order of N8 has blew their expectation. Unfortunately, they have to held back the shipping date because they want to provides the best users experience for their customer. They has confirmed that those who pre-order N8 will received their device by October. Check out the official statement by Nokia.

Official Statement

The amount of preorders has exceeded our expectations and we are working hard to deliver the Nokia N8 to the market. In some markets [including the U.S.], we had planned to start delivering the Nokia N8s to our pre-order customers by the end of September. To ensure a great user experience, we have decided to hold the shipments for a few weeks to do some final amends. We’re thrilled with the response that we’ve had to the Nokia N8 and assure everyone who’ve pre-ordered it already that it’ll be worth the wait! We expect consumers to get their Nokia N8s during October.

The Nokia 6700 Slide is a unique slide phone which looks to bridge the gap between modern smart phones and the older, smaller styles of technology which we all know and are familiar with.

The Nokia 6700 Slide features a D pad navigation below its screen for quick and easy navigation along with a slide down, 1-9 hard keyboard for the more in depth tasks. All the usual smart phone applications can be found on the Nokia 6700 Slide too, with links to Facebook, Twitter, Nokia’s Ovi store and a web browser all available on the home page.

However, despite having all the practicalities that you would find on one of the latest mobile phones, trying to integrate them into a slide phone setting can cause some teething problems.

The 1-9 keypad can make typing long emails and text messages hard at times, something that is much easier on a smart phone, and the D pad can be hard to use without accidentally hitting the surrounding buttons. Web navigation too can be an issue thanks to the Nokia 6700 Slide’s slightly untidy D pad.

The vibration setting is also a common thorn in user’s sides, as its aggression means it is often quieter to keep the phone on ring.

As the Nokia 6700 Slide is mainly available on contract mobile phone deals, users can often end up getting a full smart phone for the same monthly cost as this attempted feature phone hybrid.
