The Motorola Dext is also known as the Motorola Cliq. It is an Android smart phone and has some fun features if you like gadgets on your phone. In many mobile phone reviews this Motorola model has been called dull looking and completely ‘unsexy’, but it does have a useful and very responsive touch-screen and a good QWERTY keyboard. So, it is a good choice for Facebook addicts and Twitterers.

The Dext is a solid, if not very sleek looking phone and it is easy to use on social networking sites but it tends to have intermittent problems executing widgets from time to time and less than perfect call quality. The fast touch screen and the superb operating system more than compensate for these drawbacks but it all depends on what you want to use you new mobile phone for.

This slider phone has a full QWERTY keyboard under its 3.1 inch touch-screen and Motorola’s version of Android, named Motoblur, provides some extra features like sign-in to Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace and the ability to grab all your contacts and their profiles and merge them to fill up the address book inside the phone. This is not a very useful system for business users though, because where a business name was listed (no first name), the system lists it by number which makes it really difficult to retrieve.

In summary, this is great phone for Facebookers and Twitterers and other kinds of networking users but not very good for making calls because of the poor sound quality and far from ideal for business users. Once again it’s a case of different mobile phone deals being suitable for different types of users.

Article Content:
The Sony Ericsson T715 has some decent specs, but it just doesn’t seem to match its commonness. The styling is brilliant and most features perform well, but when users compare mobile phones from other manufacturers the T715 may likely fall short.

Pros

The T715 is an undoubtedly chic handset in black and silver, and the weight is rather substantial for its compact size. The buttons are better places than on some of the other basic Sony Ericsson mobile phones like the Naite and Jalou.

The inbox is good, allowing users to check SMS messages in threads, to access email inboxes and Facebook messages, and to engage in instant messaging.

The camera is only 3 megapixels, but is very user friendly and has some useful features like panorama and multi-shot mode.

Preloaded apps include popular items like Twitter and weather apps. There are also a fair number of games already loaded out of the box.

The T715 handles multi-tasking favourably, though running multiple apps at once seriously drains battery life.

Cons

Users must set up email accounts manually, and some may encounter repeated error codes during the process. The generic email app on the T715 is not capable of automatically detecting email settings from webmail providers like Gmail and Yahoo.

Like most other Sony Ericsson mobile phones, the T715 doesn’t have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, so users are limited to either using the uncomfortable, low-end headphones included with the phone or investing in a headphone adaptor.

Conclusion

The fine looks of the T715 go a long way in making up for its lack of advanced features.

Article Content:
Another new release from Sony Ericsson is the X10 Mini. There seems to be hundreds of new phones hitting the shelves at the moment, with many, like this one, favouring the touch screen technology that clearly is the most popular choice amongst us mobile phone users. The X10 Mini is another Sony masterpiece in terms of design and it really does look good, and yes as the name suggests this is one tiny little phone measuring in at just over 8 cm tall and 5cm wide.

It is packed with all the usual suspects in terms of features; it is now getting far more difficult to know which phone will be best for you. This one is going to be pushing its diminutive size as its major selling point. It has GPS, Wi-Fi and more, including a camera and an MP3 player, which are similar in features to hundreds of other mobile phones. But this phone also has the newer HSDPA technologies built in which makes high speed internet access a breeze, In addition, the X10-Mini is predestined for multi-tasking.

In terms of new mobile phones and their appeal we think that this is going to really appeal to the girls, as it is potentially a little small for the men to easily work with their larger hands. Compare mobile phones and you will find that this rates highly in terms of features but until it has been around for a few months the performance will not be measured accurately, so keep an eye on the mobile phone news and see how things develop.

———————

There are so many deals on the market today for the latest mobile phones. After careful reading of mobile phone reviews you may decide that the Sony Ericsson Aino is the handset you are looking for. The next step is to get online and compare mobile phone deals. Most deals come with a free handset and there are a few deals that have free insurance or some kind of gift attached so it really does pay to shop around.

O2 are offering the Sony Ericsson Aino as a free handset when you take out an 18 month contract for £30.00 per month. Included in the package is 300 minutes of free talk time and 3000 free text messages and as an extra they are also offering a £40.00 cash back gift.

For slightly less per month at £25.00 there is the option to take up an 18 month contract with T-Mobile. They are also offering a free handset but their package comes with 300 minutes of free talk time and unlimited text messages plus three months free insurance. Rather handy if you may be prone to mishaps.

Alternatively Vodafone have a great deal with a free handset and 18 month contract. It has 600 free minutes talk time and unlimited text messages, but this time the line rental is £35.00 which is more than the others, but they are offering a gift of 11 months half price line rental making this the cheapest deal at only £17.50 per month during the special offer period.

Article Content:
The Sony Ericsson Yari has been out for some time now and there are some great mobile phone deals to be had with it. This is a hybrid phone that combines standard mobile phone technologies with gaming in the style of the Wii, which for many is just the entertainment that they need. The games on offer are controlled in a very physical way, for example, in tennis you stand the handset in front of you and move your hands to control your players, the phone senses these movements and the players on screen respond accordingly. Have a game of 10-pin bowling and you will need to use the phone in the same way as the Wii handset and swing the phone to move the balls. For some this is just mobile phone gold, for others this seems all a bit pointless and not something you require your mobile to be able to do.

This is not a touch screen mobile, the standard phone keyboard slides out from the bottom of the phone. There are features such as Bluetooth, GPS and an onboard camera adding to the appeal. The phone itself is available as a contract mobile phone or a pay as you go unit, and the prices are reasonable with many deals to be had if you shop around. This is probably likely to appeal more to the younger generation rather than an office professional, and it isn’t the best in terms of MP3 playing either; in fact it is almost hard to see where this mobile phone would win when you compare it with other mobile phones currently available.

Article Content:
LG has done something very different, and often very impressive, with the Crystal GD900. Not only does it boast a touchscreen, but also a keyboard that is, well, different.

First things first – the handset is a little thicker than the norm for a slider, but it’s sleek and fits well in the hand. The thickness is due to the pull out transparent keypad (yes, transparent), which is far more than a keypad, it’s also a mouse, and touch sensitive, allowing the user to use it as a control, and alternative to the screen. It should be noted, however, that it also functions perfectly well as a keypad, vibrating when pushed as a confirmation.

If that keypad sounds odd, it is – but it is also certainly something to draw attention and it does work well, if not always perfectly; it is sometimes a little erratic in function. But being able to launch things with keypad gestures is certainly a forward-thinking move. You can even use pinch-to-zoom on the keypad as you would on the touchscreen, with the same effect.

In portrait mode the screen doesn’t show all the icons. Put it in landscape mode and it does – all 32 of them – but they’re very small. There’s an onscreen QWERTY keyboard available, but it’s too small to use with much comfort – and besides, the keypad just looks so much cooler.

There’s no doubt the LG Crystal GD900 will impress, and it’s really a pretty good, if not perfect, phone. But LG is onto something with that keypad. Expect to see it on other models.

Article Content:
Samsung’s new handset featuring the Google Android operating system seems to be a winner all round. It’s as if the company engineers actually spent time analysing other smartphones and then wondering how they could not only do it better, but also more simply. In many ways they’ve succeeded admirably.

Samsung mobile phones have always had a distinctive style, and the Galaxy is no different; anyone familiar with a Samsung will be readily familiar with this and the size and shape fits very comfortably in the hand.

Wanting to turn apps on and off? That’s simple. Just a couple of quick taps on the screen accomplishes it, much better than most of the competition, and means a user doesn’t have to go paging all through the menu.

Those are the big pluses. However, there are negatives, most notably the onscreen keyboard, which is exceptionally awkward to use, and probably deserves a full redesign to be fully functional in landscape mode. Similarly, the lock key definitely appears to have issues, not always working as the user might wish.

Battery life isn’t particularly good either, as several mobile phone reviews of the Galaxy have noted. However, others haven’t had problems with it.

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy is a decent, if not superb, smartphone and the Android under the bonnet works very well, smart and snappy on browsing, as well as for moving between functions. This isn’t going to set the world on fire, though, and it’s not going to topple the iPhone from its throne. But Samsung fans ready for a smartphone will like it.

LG did well with the Viewty smartphone, and it aims to do even better with its successor, the Viewty Smart GC900. It’s a tough act to follow, but the company has made changes for this latest mobile phone. So how does this new handset fare?

In theory, at least, the Viewty Smart GC900 sounds very tasty. It boasts an eight megapixel camera, a good size three-inch touchscreen, 3.5G and Wi-Fi. Mobile phone reviews have been generous in their praise of the capacitive screen, which is sensitive to the lightest touch.

The features of the camera are among the mobile phone’s strongest points, able to take rapid-fire shots, with adjustments for lighting conditions, and straightforward between the macro and normal modes. Like its predecessor, it’s also good with video, even slow motion.

The Wi-Fi and 3.5G mean very fast connections for browsing, uploading and downloading. The screen is very efficient, and navigation is exceptionally easy. So what’s the downside?

Perhaps surprisingly, the camera is one of the worst offenders. It promises a lot, but the picture quality just doesn’t deliver. The onscreen QWERTY keyboard is remarkably slow (the same is true for the onscreen phone keypad), making for an annoying experience when typing.

Remarkably, although this is a failure that’s all too common even in the newest mobile phones, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack for listening to music.

So it’s a bit of a curate’s egg – good in parts. The touchscreen is a dream, but elsewhere LG needs to do more work on this model to make it really deliver for consumers. As it stands, the experience falls far short of what it could be.

Sony Ericsson has established an enviable reputation as a company that blends music and mobile phones well, and their new mobile phone, the Sony Ericsson W910i, carries on that tradition, but also upends it a little.

That’s due to the new browsing system on Sony Ericsson mobile phones, called SensMe, which offers a completely different type of music browsing experience. Forget going by artist, album, or genre; instead SensMe sorts music by tempo and mood. Whether that’s good or bad depends on the user, of course, but it’s unusual and the company obviously believes in it; it’s now standard on all Sony Ericsson Walkman mobile phones.

The sound is every bit as good as on previous models (virtually all music file formats are supported), possibly even better, with a loudspeaker built in, and the trademark Megbass equaliser on board, letting listeners customise the sound a little. Those are both good things, but the company does fall down on a couple of essentials. There’s an adapter, but no 3.5mm headphone jack, which seems a grave omission on such a serious music phone. Perhaps even worse is the fact that there’s just not enough memory to store a great deal of music, certainly not enough to satisfy anyone who’d be a likely purchaser.

The camera is very much of an afterthought of the Sony Ericsson W910i, weighing in at a very scant two megapixels, and lacking even autofocus. Although there are plenty of positives about this handset, it’s far from being everything it could have been, and that’s a shame. Better next time, perhaps?

The Samsung U600 emphasises functionality despite being a slide phone, which is to say slide phones are really stylish. Most mobile phone reviews would say that this model actually goes right back to the basics, at least in appearance. It has touch-sensitive buttons for navigation, which give a “realistic” feel when pressing, but actually the pad is just a flat surface with vibration response for command recognition. Most critics feel that this feature is not really cool, since it has made the interface a little “weird” or awkward. Nevertheless, the phone’s other features are promising.

The U600 has an upgraded camera with 3.2-megapixels and auto-focus as compared to previous Samsung mobile phones, which had 3.0-megapixels. It is also one of Samsung’s thinnest handsets, at just 10.9mm. This is a quadband phone, which works with most of the networks and has a music player that can play MP3 files. It also comes with a TV-out connector for TV viewing of pictures. It is also a real lightweight, making it feel as if there’s nothing in your pocket or jacket.

Other features include a 262k colour screen, Bluetooth®, EDGE technology connection for faster downloads, an expandable memory card slot that reaches up to 2GB and a document viewer for .doc and .pdf files.

The Samsung U600 definitely represents good value for money, since it is relatively cheaper than most phones and take note, it is also a slide phone, so rest assured, it will never go out of style.
