Nokia’s Music Store hasn’t been on the radar lately, and that could be seen as a good thing or bad thing. For a lot of Nokia fans out there, the Music Store is an integral part of their daily routine, especially those with devices that “Comes With Music.” But, it seems that Nokia is ready for a change, and so they’ve put in place the gradual alteration of the Music Store into becoming Ovi Music.
According to Nokia UK & Ireland’s Head of Communication, Anna Shipley, Nokia’s Music Store is now known as Ovi Music. The upgrade to Ovi Music will take place over the first half of 2010, essentially upgrading countries that are currently using Nokia Music Store as their digital storefront. There isn’t any specific timing for any particular countries, but Nokia has confirmed that the change will be automatic, so users shouldn’t have to do anything to make it happen.
This isn’t that big of a surprise, as the Ovi moniker has become a staple to the company. Rebranding other products, like Maps, took place earlier in the year (it also ushered in the usage of free Ovi Maps for life). So, it looks like Nokia will continue to use Comes With Music for their device launches, but the change is coming solely in the name change of the music store itself. Hopefully this doesn’t upset your entire weekend.
