There’s a lot of different parts that get thrown in when you start developing an application. It’s not just about the app, but also about the devices you’re going to be putting that application on. For some developers out there, developing on other platforms may be easier because there aren’t a boat-load of devices to develop for. But, for Android developers, it’s not that easy, and we can see how something as simple as the camera would be overlooked.
The simple truth is, Android has a lot of different cameras, screen sizes, screen resolutions, and everything else to contend with, and developers have to factor every one of those features into the equation of developing a new application, or even upgrading their currently available one. In the case of the HTC Legend, which is currently only available in Europe, users weren’t able to use several steadfast applications from the Android Marketplace: Twidroid, Layar, Barcode Scanner, and even MySpace Mobile. And, it all boiled down to a camera incompatibility.
But, HTC’s quick on the fixes (they’ve got to be quick about something, right?), and they’ve already begun to push out an Over the Air (OTA) update to all Legend owners out there. That should take care of everything. So, as soon as you get the update, be sure to run a quick lap through the Marketplace and take a gander at all those apps you couldn’t see before. And, don’t forget to let us know how it goes.
